The game started with a nightmare 11 seconds for the New York Giants. Fumble on the opening kickoff. Touchdown on the first offensive play for the Cleveland Browns. But the shock did wake up the Giants who eventually beat the Browns 21-15.
Daniel Jones and Malik Nabers hooked up with a pair of touchdown connections, and Dexter Lawrence and a dominant effort from the defensive front took over in the second half.
The Giants (1-2) now head home on a short week for a prime time game against the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night. But the resolve they showed with head coach Brian Daboll’s third season teetering on the edge of a cliff right out of the gates was impressive to say the least.
Nabers finished with eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Jones completed 24-of-34 for 236 yards and those two scoring strikes. The Giants had eight sacks, including two for Lawrence, and that is their most since 2014 when another rookie receiver named Odell Beckham Jr. carried them on the way to the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.
